Our History 

John’s Shoe Repair was founded in 1955 by a German immigrant named John Engelbrecht.  Over the next 20 years, John and his wife Maria built a thriving business by providing their customers with expert quality craftsmanship and outstanding customer service.  Those standards proudly remain the cornerstone of John’s Shoe Repair today.  Sadly, John passed away unexpectedly in 1975.  Following John’s death Maria continued the business until 1978 when she sold the company to Tim Herwaldt,  a young man who had apprenticed under Maria following John’s death.

Under Tim’s ownership the business continued to grow and over the years became a fixture in the Lansing community, continuing to provide the old world craftsmanship that the Engelbrecht’s brought to the business more than 58 years ago.  Through the years John’s Shoe Repair has developed a loyal customer base that has continued to expanded beyond just the mid-Michigan area to include customers from all over the United States.

Approaching retirement Tim sold the business, a local entrepreneur and is proud to carry on the tradition and is committed to continuing to providing outstanding customer service and quality products.
